What Haven runs for them

Blue Sky Ranch RV Resort is a family-owned 55+ community in Yuma, Arizona, with 190 sites. The owners wanted a brand of their own, separate from their other Yuma parks, and a website that would bring in long-stay residents. Seven days after the first call, the new brand and website were live. The first reservation request came in that afternoon.

The situation

The October season was weeks away and the rates online were wrong. The old site was a stock theme with text piled on top, left behind by a webmaster who had shut down, and nobody at the park could easily change it. The message had the same problem. Asked why someone should choose Blue Sky, the park manager, who is on site every day, kept coming back to community and family. Any park can claim that.

The brand

We ran the kickoff call as a messaging interview and asked what a newcomer’s first week looks like. At a 1,200-site park, neighbors can stay strangers all winter. At Blue Sky, they come over and say hello. That became the sentence the whole brand hangs on.

Every headline on the site was written to prove this sentence.

A 23-slide deck turned the idea into decisions the owners could approve one at a time. The line under the logo became “Small park. Big welcome. A 55+ RV resort in Yuma.” The colors came straight off the park’s sign: Night Sky navy from “RV Resort,” Wagon Red from the covered wagon and Ranch Green from the grass, on a pale sky ground. Wagon Red is saved for the one button that matters on each page.

Domine sets the headlines and Work Sans handles everything else. Body text runs 18px on a desktop and never under 16px on a phone, because every reader is over 55.

If something does not fit, we cut words instead of shrinking type.

The voice sounds like the person at the office desk. It states the price and the 55+ rule up front, and it only promises what the park has, so the site lists one pickleball court and RVs up to 45 feet. Residents call the park a family in their own testimonials, and the site never says it for them. On our four-part messaging audit, the approved homepage copy scored 93. The old site landed in the 40s.

From brand to website in 7 days

Because the deck carried the site map and every homepage section with real copy, the build started with the words already approved.

  • Sept 9. A 33-minute kickoff call.
  • Sept 10. The brand direction went out in the morning. The park manager replied that afternoon: “I like the vibe you’re going with.”
  • Sept 14. Brand approved as Draft 6 and the preview site sent. The park manager: “This looks fantastic!”
  • Sept 15. The owners returned one change after going over everything “with a fine-tooth comb.”
  • Sept 16. Live on blueskyranchyuma.com, two days ahead of target.

How the park runs became part of the message. The office assigns every site by stay length and rig, so the homepage says “We Match You to a Site” and the reservation form explains the process in three steps, with the park map one tap away.

What changed

The correct rates were online before the season. A short-stay reservation request arrived the afternoon of launch. A week later an annual-residency inquiry came through the site, the stay the owners most want, and the park manager called the prospect that day to invite an application. The park’s outside marketing lead wrote back: “So grateful the new site is doing its job!”

Requests now arrive with stay type, dates, rig and pets filled in, so the office can match a site on the first call. When the owner sent four changes on September 24, all four were live on September 28, ahead of the Thursday we promised.

What is next

We host the site and post new home listings within 48 hours of an email from the office. On October 30 we are on site for drone footage and amenity photography, and we will publish reservation numbers here once the season is underway.
